Representing Netherbury Ward, which covers the parishes of Allington and Netherbury.

The parish of Allington is on the north-west side of Bridport and the parish of Netherbury is between Bridport and Beaminster, including Melplash, Netherbury, Pymore, Salway Ash and Waytown.

Information about my role as a councillor

I am a member of the Executive Committee and share with my colleagues the decision making of the council subject to its policy and budgetary framework.

In addition, I maintain contact with the work of the council's overview & scrutiny committees by attending their formal meetings.

As part of the trend for councils to develop partnership working, I have been appointed to the Revenues and Benefits Strategic Partnership Board. The objective is to develop a joint service with Weymouth & Portland Borough Council that will collect the council tax and non domestic rates, handle housing benefit payments and related services. It is expected to become fully operational in 2006.

At present councils are required to improve their purchasing procedures and in particular to develop e-procurement. Councils are also required to achieve efficiency savings of 2.5% each year. I take an interest in these areas in my capacity as the council's procurement and efficiency champion.

Additionally, I serve as a member of the Western Area Development Control Committee.

Other roles

I am a governor of Weymouth College (as a nominee of West Dorset District Council) and Salway Ash Primary School.

Connections with the elected representatives of other authorities

I maintain a close contact with Peter Gregson, the county councillor whose area includes Netherbury, and Sandra Brown, the county councillor whose area covers Allington.

I keep in touch with local issues by attending the meetings of Allington and Netherbury parish councils.
